Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 25: As Diwali festival has approached near, the entire market in Jammu city is abuzz with people shopping for Diwali celebrations but the haphazard parking on the road in some ever busy markets in Jammu city has been creating inconvenience for visitors.
Moreover the people are being fleeced by the shopkeepers as things are being sold on exorbitant rates in guise of Diwali festival but the concerned authorities seem to be lazy to take action against such mal practices.
"Today I went to Parade for Diwali shopping but very shocked to see the huge traffic jam in that area, which was mainly due to wrong parking of vehicles by the people who come to shopping there. Due to haphazard parking, we couldn't pass through the main road of Parade. Even the police also looked helpless in clearing the jam," said a visitor Kapil Sharma. Policemen deployed in this area are acting as mute spectators and doing nothing to felicitate traffic, he alleged.
Not only the parking problem, even shops have been fleecing the customers by selling their products on exorbitant rates during this festive season. "We had come for shopping in Parade market, but very shocked to see the rate tags on those products, which were highly exorbitant. The decoration materials, which are sold on Rs 20 on other days, are being sold on Rs 50 these days. Similarly, garments are being sold on high rates. Legal Metrology Department and other allied departments should take prompt action against these illegal practices," said Dr Anha Khan.
