| Workshop on Mental Health organized | | |  Early Times Report
RAJOURI, Oct 25: In order to sensitize and spread awareness about mental health and suicide prevention among the students, a mega programme cum workshop was organised by Block Medical Officer, Kandi Dr Iqbal Malik (also holds the charge of District Mental Health Programme) in collaboration with HSS Public School Darhal under the direct supervision of Chief Medical Officer, Rajouri Dr Sanjeev Puri. Attending the programme, BMO, Dr Malik delineated the causes and preventions of mental illness and suicidal behaviour. Quoting the World Health Organization (WHO), he pointed out that there is a suicide in the world in every 42 seconds and in India every one hour, one student commits suicide. He remarked that the number of suicide cases and substance abuse has been steadily rising and he asserted that it was time to take a stand and demand more for this vulnerable population because of the future depends on the mental health of the world.
The Guest-of-Honour, Dr Sajjad Mirza, BMO Darhal shed light on mental illnesses and numerous reasons that lead an individual, especially a young person to commit suicide. |
