Hirdesh Kumar inspects ground zero power restoration work

SRINAGAR, Nov 9: The Commissioner Secretary, Power Development Department (PDD) Hirdesh Kumar Singh today visited different areas in Srinagar and Baramulla Districts to inspect ground zero restoration work of power supply which was affected due to recent heavy snowfall across valley. The Commissioner Secretary was accompanied by the Chief Engineer (Distribution) Qazi Hashmat, Chief Engineer (Transmission), Chief Engineer (P&D), Chief Engineer (Projects), Secretary Technical, Superintending Engineers and other concerned officers. He was informed that thousands of poles and numerous transformers were damaged due to the unprecedented snowfall. There was heavy damage to 220KV & 132KV lines resulting in complete failure of Grid Stations.
He was further informed that the damage was so huge that 12 Nos of 220 KVA towers and 6 Nos of 132 KVA towers were fully or partially damaged resulting in complete failure of power network.
He was informed that Power Distribution Corporation and Transco Ltd. took up the task of restoration work of Power on war footing and power supply in most areas of Srinagar city and other District headquarters was restored.
The Commissioner Secretary was assured by the Chief Engineers that the power supply in the valley will be restored fully in the next four to five days.
The Commissioner Secretary directed them to ensure cent percent power restoration across the valley at an earliest, he asked them to press more men and machinery into service for complete power restoration.
Later Commissioner Secretary convened a meeting with all the Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers of PDD and other concerned officers.
He passed on instructions to all Engineers to remain vigilant and ensure timely completion of power restoration work and asked them to remain geared up to meet any exigency during the winter.
