Jammu, Nov 9: Despite getting up-gradation from 30 bedded hospital to 100 bedded hospital in year 2013-14, the Community Health Centre (CHC) Hiranagar still functioning form the 30 bedded hospital. Moreover, for the up-gradation of the hospital, the union government had earmarked 80 lakhs but ironically, the funds are lying unused.
Sources in health department informed that in financial year 2013-14, the government of Jammu and Kashmir had announced that Primary Health Centre Hiranagar would be upgraded from 30 bedded Hospital to 100 bedded hospital and in this regard, nearly 80 lakh rupees would be spent for creating infrastructure under National Health Mission but ironically, the expansion of hospital yet to see daylight. "For the expansion of the said hospital, the health department also announced that nearly a piece of land measuring 6 Kanal and 10 marla of Education Department which is falls under the possession of Government Higher Secondary School Hirangar would be transferred to Health Department but ironically in lapse of five year, the health department fails to get land from the Education Department, resulting of it the expansion of the hospital yet to start", said sources while wishing anonymity.
Sources further said that the expansion of hospital was repeatedly raised by local leader as well as public and even the local former MLA Kuldeep Raj during the District Development Board meeting but the health department never took the issue seriously, resulting the allocated funds for expansion of hospital stand on verge of lapsed.
"Few months back, the then Deputy Commissioner Kathua Raghav Langar took issue regarding the transfer of education department's land to health department and called both the department departments but after transfer of him, the issue still unsettled. Now the file the lying in the Secretariat but health department nonchalant attitude toward expansion of CHC Hiranagar, the local are depriving to get advance health care facilities", said sources.
Despite repeated call to Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kathua, he was not available for comment.
