Eid-e-Milad celebrated with religious fevour in Kashmir

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 10: Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, the birthday of Holy Prophet Muhammad, was on Sunday celebrated with religious fevour and gaiety in Kashmir valley, despite chilly weather conditions.
Lakhs of people joined the night-long prayers at shrines, mosques and other religious places to celebrate the Eid-e-Milad.
The main congregation was held at Asaar-e-Sharief Hazratbal on the bank of Dal Lake, which houses the Holy Relic of Prophet, where devotees from different parts of the valley joined the night-long prayers.
However, the number of devotees this time was very less as compared to previous year due to non-availability of public transport, which remained off the roads since August 5, when centre scrapped Article 370 and 35 A, besides divided the state into two Union Territories (UTs).
The devotees, who managed to reach the shrine on foot or in private vehicles, had the glimpse of Holy Relic after "Fajr" (morning) prayers. Devotees will have the Deedar (glimpse) of the Holy Relic after every prayers throughout the day.
The divisional authorities claimed to have made all arrangements for the devotees. But, people alleged that no arrangement was made for the devotees, who had to suffer due to non-availability of heating arrangement.
''Snow has not been cleared from the field and the surrounding areas of the shine, where people used to gather for special night-long players. No arrangements, including heating system, have been put in place for the occasion,'' a resident of Hazratbal, told news agency over the phone.
This time hundreds of vendors, who used to put up their stalls around the shrine every year, were missing because of spontaneous strike since August 5 and chilly weather conditions.
Similar night-long congregations were organized at other shrines, including Asaar-e-Sharief Shahree Kalashpor and Jenab Sahib Soura.
Reports of Eid-e-Milad celebrations were also received from other parts of the Kashmir valley.
