JAMMU, Dec 20: Commissioner Secretary, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Social Welfare Departments Manoj Kumar Dwivedi today asked to complete the registration of schools on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) by the end of this month for accelerating the disbursement of the benefits to eligible students.
The directions were given by him while chairing a meeting of Committee on Scholarships.
Pertinently, NSP is a one-stop solution for obtaining benefits under the scholarships schemes launched by Union government, state government and UTs.
Commissioner Secretary, School Education, Sarita Chauhan, Secretary Higher Education, Talat Parvaiz, Director General Social Welfare, Jammu, Rehana Batool, Director School Education, Jammu, Anuradha Gupta, Director Colleges, J&K, Yaseen Ahmad Shah were present in the meeting. Director School Education, Kashmir, Mohammad Younis Malik attended the meeting through Video Conferencing.
Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare, exhorted upon all the concerned officers to give their feedback for making the procedures of availing the scholarships by eligible students easy and simple. He directed them to ensure 100 percent enrolment of eligible SC, ST, OBC and General Category students in various centrally sponsored schemes well before the cut off date.
Dwivedi asked the officers to look into the difficulties faced by the students in obtaining the requisite certificates like income and category to enable them to avail the benefits under these schemes. He further sought suggestions for easing the process for convenience of the eligible students. He asked them to act as facilitators so that the benefits of these centrally sponsored schemes percolate down to grassroots beneficiaries.
Commissioner Secretary, School Education suggested that the students should be provided with a homogeneous proforma along with admission form so that the details are collected before hand by all the institutions. She said that this would provide ample time for making necessary rectifications or availing of relevant supporting documents by the eligible students. She also directed the Nodal officers to go through the relevant SOPs and understand all the details so that no inconsistency comes anywhere while completing the formalities.
It was given out in the meeting that in Kashmir division 41,740 applications for pre-matric scholarship, 33,351 for post-matric, 5,160 for merit cum means national scholarships have been uploaded by the institutions till date.
Similarly, in Jammu division 14,295 applications for pre-matric OBC scholarship, 4,475 for post-matric SC scholarship have been received till date. The meeting was apprised that all the government and private schools of Jammu division have been registered on NSP by the school education department.
