DDC launches Jal Jeevan Mission-Har Ghar Nal se Jal

RAJOURI, Dec 26: District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Mohammad Nazir Sheikh today formally launched Jal Jeevan Mission in the district in presence of Chairpersons of Block Development Councils and District Officer.
Among others the Function was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Sher Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nowshera, Sukhdev Singh Samyal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kotranka, Surinder Mohan Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kalakote, Ram Krishan, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Mohd Ashraf, District Panchayat Officer, Dr Abdul Khabir, Deputy Director Planning Bilal Mir, Engineers of PHE,I&FC, PWD and other District and Sectoral Officers.
SE PHE Irrigation and Flood control informed that 05 blocks of district Rajouri including Thanamandi, Budhal New, Lamberi, Seri and Qila Darhal are to be covered with 100% tap water connection by June, 2020. He further highlighted that against the current water demand of 13.27 MGD (Million Gallons per day), the current water availability is 6.75 MGD and hence current deficit is 6.52 MGD in the district.
A threadbare discussion was also held with regards to the challenge and the plans to overcome the challenges. DDC said there is a need to augment the existing water sources, transfer of Water-Multi Village scheme for those villages where quality and quantity issues exist and Technology intervention where quality is an issue. He further informed that 54.36 percent households are yet to be covered with FHTC in the District. He laid thrust for the construction of water harvesting structures so that the groundwater could be recharged.
DDC exhorted upon the BDC chairpersons and officers of the concerned departments that there is a need to generate awareness among the masses about the Jal Jeevan Mission. It was informed in the meeting that during the first instance sarpanches and panches of each Block will be sensitised through a mega workshop at the district headquarters.
DDC asked the Block Development chairpersons and concerned officers to conduct a survey, related to the number of houses covered with Piped connection, number of houses where pipe connection is required and the sources to be tapped at Panchayat level or village level. He also asked them to submit a DPR in this regard at the earliest so that the desired results could be achieved in a time bound manner.
