Early Times Report
Kulgam, Dec 26: With the lackadaisical approach, the Kulgam Revenue Department has failed to recover over 500 kanals of land from encroachers in Bugam-Super Village.
According to villagers, the approached multiple times to erstwhile state government and district administration, however all their efforts vent in vain as the Revenue department t should complete 'non-seriousness'.
"We used to play cricket and other games on the land. Even schools functioning in the district used to go for picnics to this location as it was beautiful and vast area more than 500 kanals of land," Jan Mubarik, a local resident, who is himself a senior government functionary told Early Times.
Local residents said that during nineties some people with vested interests being to encroach land and started converting into orchards.
"Some time ago Sheep and Husbandry department planned to open a sheep farm in the area but later they abandoned the plan due to the reasons best know to them," locals said.
They said that due non-availability of state land various facilities and amenities like hospital, school and other agricultural related offices aren't being provided to villagers.
"Children of area had to visit other areas for playing games and for picnicking," they said.
Locals said that the Deputy Commissioner of Kulgam and other revenue officials visited the village for on spot inspection but with no tangible results.
"Apparently, the matter was hushed up," alleged residents.
Assistant Commissioner Revenue Kulgam, Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad when contacted expressed ignorance about the matter, however assured to look into it.
Pertinent to mention here, the revenue department had done malafide exercise in Gudder village of Kulgam district and had changed the nature of hundreds of kanals of land. After, Early Times reported the same, the settlement of the village was reordered and a huge land encroached by a KAS officer was snatched.
