EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Dec 26: Despite Jammu & Kashmir being reorganized into a Union Territory Kashmir is getting all the attention and Jammu continues to get ignored.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "The Tourism Department is making all the efforts to promote Kashmir as the favourite tourist destination and no attention is being paid towards attracting tourists to Jammu, which is far more peaceful than Kashmir."
He said, "Since the day J&K has been reorganized number of tourists visiting Jammu and Srinagar has declined manyfolds. However, the life returing to normal in the Valley has activated the Tourism Department. It looks like that this department is only meant for Kashmir and it has got nothing to do with Jammu."
The analyst said that Tourism Department had invited the big Bollywood Houses to celebrate Christmas at famous Ski-resort of Gulmarg. The programme couldn't materialize due to the anti-CAA protests across the country. Representatives of these Houses are likely to visit Gulmarg on January 10, 2020. "There is no harm in inviting the Bollywood Houses to Gulmarg but a similar exercise could have been carried out at Patnitop also which is fast emerging as the paradise for tourists," he added.
The analyst said, "Kashmir-centric leaders who ruled J&K during the past 70 years ignored the tourism potential of Jammu region completely and never made an attempt to put it on the tourist map. It is unfortunate that the precedent set by the former rulers is still being followed. The mindset of the officials needs to change and they need to be told that Jammu & Kashmir is not only about Kashmir, it is about Jammu also."
An observer said, "Despite spending huge amounts on advertisements and promotion campaigns, the Tourism Department has failed to convince the tourists to visit the Valley. Had they spent only half of the amount to promote Jammu and places like Patnitop they could have achieved far better results."
He said, "Till date no attempt has been made to explore the hilly areas of Jammu region for the tourists and the Bollywood. The government of the day needs to pay little attention towards developing the scenic and picturesque spots in Jammu region. These spots were ignored due to Kashmir-centric politicians having only one agenda that was to promote Kashmir and nothing else. People of Jammu have been raising this issue for the past 70 years but no one has listened to them."
