Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 28: A unique function was held today at the Amar Singh Club by the women club Meri Pehchan to pay Tribute to the Legendary Dogras who had created a unique Dogra Empire of Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Tibet in 1846. Dogras from different walks of life gathered together to remember their Heroes paying handsome tributes to Maharaja Gulab Singh and his great General Zorawar Singh who had extended the frontiers of the Country and provided a strategic depth on the Northern Himalayas.
One can imagine if Maharaja Gulab Singh and Gen Zorawar Singh had not conquered Ladakh and not annexed Gilgit Baltistan and finally added Kashmir, what would be the present map of India. General Zorawar Singh who is called Napoleon of the East was remembered with gratitude for his contribution to the History of India.
Paying tribute to Maharaja Hari Singh and Brig Rajinder Singh, his Chief of Military Staff for saving the State from the British planned Pakistani invasion on 22 October 1947, but for the contribution of Brig Rajinder Singh Kashmir would have been lost and finally paying tribute to Maharaja Hari Singh, we remember him for Accession to India and the declaration of Govt. Holiday on Accession Day will always remind us of Maharaja Hari Singh.
Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, AVSM, the last general of Maharaja Hari Singh's Forces recounted the history of the State and also announced that Bi-Centenary of the State Army now the JAK Rifles Regiment of the Indian Army will be celebrating its Bi-Centenary on 13 April 2020 in Jammu.
