Cleanliness survey leaves BJP red faced
1/7/2020 9:17:03 PM

Jammu being declared as one of the dirtiest city in the country is a setback for the Bharatiya Janata Party which had won the Urban Local Bodies polls in 2018.
From its previous 260th rank in 2019, Jammu has slipped to 318th position in the latest survey Swachh Sarvekshan-2020.
The results of the survey have put a question mark over the much hyped Swachta hi Seva campaign. People are asking a simple question why Jammu has become so dirty? What were the people at the helm doing?
Soon after Bharatiya Janata Party won the Jammu Municipal Corporation elections in 2018 the saffron party claimed that it would turn Jammu city into one of the "cleanest cities" in the country and would work towards turning it into a smart city. But it being one of the dirtiest cities has punctured the claims of the people running the show.
Prior to coming into power, the BJP used to claim that it's the only party which can represent the aspirations of the people of Jammu.
People have highlighted the issue of Jammu being dirty at various forums. But the helmsmen seem least interested in addressing their genuine grievances. The common complaint which the people have is that the corporators after winning the municipal polls disappeared from the scene and their lackadaisical attitude has pushed Jammu to an edge. The filth and garbage spread across Jammu has taken the sheen out of this vibrant city, which is fast moving on the lines of other metro cities.
When BJP entered into a deal with the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015 to form the government in the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir its leaders claimed that they have compromised on their ideology for the sake of people but their claims proved to be a hoax. The BJP shared power with the PDP for more than three years but unfortunately no attempt was made by the party leaders to pay attention towards the issues which touch the skin of a common man. After assuming power many BJP leaders did not remain accessible to the people who had voted for them.
The latest survey report Swachh Sarvekshan-2020 has left the BJP red faced which after winning the Urban Local Bodies elections had claimed that party taking control of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is the victory of Jammu people. One wonders what happened to the tall promises which the saffron party had made. Jammu becoming one of the dirtiest cities is no good news at least for the BJP.
