Ealry Times Report
RAJOURI, Jan 14: Blame it on the apathetic attitude of the concerned authorities or lack of the co-ordination between them which is taking heavy toll on the lives of the commuters since several years that successive regime fails to make the Rajouri-Thannamandi road traffic worthy.
People of the area are up in arms against the concerned authorities BRO for their utter failure in black-topping the only road link due to which the commuters who ply their vehicles on it go through a nightmarish experience.
Locals said that the successive governments remained indifferent in making this road motorable.
"Since several years people are protesting over the deplorable condition of road," said local resident, Showkat Choudhary adding despite verbal assurances nothing has done so far by the successive regimes as well as MLAs. All of them have taken us for a ride.
It is in place to mention here that Rajouri-Thanamandi-Surankote road is one of the vital roads in Pir Panjal region as 90% of Mughal Road traffic moves on this road and a multifold increase in vehicular movement has been recorded on this road in last five years but single lane road is posing severe hardships for people.
Sources further said that the central government has proposed a two lane road from Rajouri to Surankote which will pass from Thanamandi, Dehra Ki Gali and Bufliyaz to reach Surankote.
The existing road will be widened and a two lane road will be constructed on it, which will reduce the traffic congestions and also reduce the journey time.
They also informed that the travel-time distance between Surankote to Rajouri via Thanamandi is expected to be reduced by about 25 minutes.
When contacted, a senior officer of central government confirmed that process for preparation of detailed project report and feasibility report is in its final stage and only land acquisition and forest clearance are pending now.
"Demand of widening of this road was a major one and we are hopeful to start the work in next some months but things depend on how quick land acquisition and forest clearance is made," he added.
