Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 14: NSS units of Govt. College for Women Udhampur under the guidance of Prof. Subhash Chander, Principal Govt. College for Women Udhampur organised a lecture on the topic “Consumer Rights vis-a-vis Women Empowerment” in the backdrop of NSS Annual Special Camp (13th January to 19th January 2020). Ajay Verma, Assistant Controller, Department of Legal Metrology, Udhampur was the resource person of the day.
He began with unfolding the concept of consumer rights and duties, especially women consumers. Women are the epicentre of consumption; right from the LPG cylinder we consume in our kitchen to the goods required in our daily routine and so on. Coming down the line he mentioned minute details which a consumer has to mind while purchasing anything from the market through online as well as offline mode.
For instance, Verma awared the audience that one should visit https instead of http sites as far as online shopping is concerned. While discussing offline purchase he stressed upon the idea of MRP (maximum retail price) and admitted that one should bargain about MRP because the seller always has the margin to sell a particular good on the price lower than maximum retail price.
Thereafter, a cleanliness drive was organised whereby classrooms were cleaned as Swachhta is the integral part of National Service Scheme.
Moreover, a clean society and healthy body is instrumental in leading good life which may lead to individual liberation. The day was called off with the recitation of national anthem. Earlier, the morning session of 2nd day began with light exercise, drill and singing of NSS song by the volunteers.
