GGF observes 73rd martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi

JAMMU, Jan 30: Gandhi Global Family J&K paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 73rd martyrdom day at Dewan-E-Aam, Mubarak Mandi, Jammu where thousands of people from all walks of life participated.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu Sanjeev Verma, senior officials of Para Military Forces, senior bureaucrats, former ministers, leaders of various political parties, Govt officials, Principals of various colleges and schools, NGOs, eminent Journalists, students, and the general public participated in huge numbers enthusiastically.
The programme started with a symposium on topic-Mahatma 150 wheere students from 6 colleges & more than 50 govt & private schools spoke on the life & legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. Later several students sang favorite bhajans of Bapu.
On the occasion, The Gandhi Global Family J&K Executive Committee presented Mahatma Gandhi Seva Medal to Santoor Maestro and Bollywood Music Composer Abhay Rustum Sopori for this contribution in promoting classical music in the country in general and in J&K in particular. Earlier Chief Conservator of Forests Sameer Bhatia was honoured with GGF Souvenir by DGP J&K Dilbag Singh for his contribution in protection of environment by planting lakhs of saplings in between 1992 to 2019.
In his address, President Gandhi Global Family J&K Padmashri Dr S P Varma informed the gathering that similar programs were being conducted on the same day by all the international, national and local units of the organisation. He encouraged youth to imbibe the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi in their daily life. Later two minutes of silence and oath ceremony was conducted by Pooja Gupta of Lawrence Public School where thousands of students pledged to make Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of modern India, a reality.
Major General (Rtd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, Advisor Gandhi Global Family J&K recalled his meeting with Mahatma Gandhi way back in 1947 in Kashmir while he was serving in Indian Army as Second Lieutenant.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu Sanjeev Verma appreciated the role of Gandhi Global Family in consistently promoting the Gandhian values from more than thirty years. While complementing Gandhi Global Family he cited Mahatma Gandhi’s visit to J&K in 1947 where he experienced Ray of Hope in the region while whole subcontinent was burning. The same ray of hope is visible in Dewan-E-Aam where people from diverse cultures, religions and regions have come together voluntarily remembering the Mahatma. He further expressed that together we can bring the much needed change in our society. The programme was conducted under the patronship of Wg.Cdr M M Joshi.
