The victim (name withheld) narrating her ordeal told Early Times, she was repeatedly raped by Reyaz a Policeman at Jammu on September 29, 2019. “Four Policemen from Doda Police Station headed by Sub Inspector, AshiqHussain reached at our rented home on September 25, 2019 in search of my husband. The team entered our house and started misbehaving, they took my husband to Zafarabad Police Station in Delhi and kept beating my husband. Late in the night they took us in private hotel in Paharganj area, and spent two days there”, she said, adding that on third day three Policemen took my husband to Hyderabad.
“Fourth Policeman, according to her,SIAshiqHussain, Reyaz Ahmed brought me Jammu via Bus. We reached here in the morning, and he took me at his sister’s residence Bage-Bahu area and kept hostage till late evening. His sister gave a cup of tea, and after few minutes I fell unconscious, he raped me repeatedly till next morning”, she said.
“In the morning he took me to bus stand Jammu from where he boarded me in Tempo for Doda”, she said, adding after reaching my home I could not tell my torment to anybody as my husband was in Police custody. “My mother-in-law noticed my pain and then I narrated her entire episode, I went to Additional SP Doda lodged a written complaint against Policemen for raping me. But Police didn’t showed any seriousness in the case”, she said.
Finally on December 20, 2019 the victim knocked door of Court for justice. “SSP Doda is directed to conduct preliminary enquiry to ascertain whether cognizable offence is made out or not in the light of averments made in the application. The preliminary enquiry should be made in a time bound manner and in any case should not exceed seven days. After conducting preliminary enquiry if any cognizable offences is made out, SSP Doda is directed to proceed in accordance with law”, order issued by Additional Special Mobile Magistrate Doda reads.
But the victim alleged that despite clear-cut directions from the Court Additional Special Mobile Magistrate Doda, Police turned a deaf ear. “My statement has not been recorded properly, I’m afraid that the Police can further manipulate the preliminary enquiry ordered by Court to save its skin”, she said.
