FC Finance reviews arrangements for Mahashivratri festival

JAMMU, Feb 7: Financial Commissioner, Finance, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta today reviewed the arrangements for celebration of the upcoming Mahashivratri festival.
Secretary Relief and Rehabilitation department, Simrandeep Singh; Commissioner JMC, Avny Lavasa; DG Budget, Mohammad Yaqoob Itoo and Relief Commissioner, T.K Bhat, besides officers of other departments like Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Horticulture, Floriculture, Fisheries, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, PHE, PDD and PWD also attended the meeting.
The Financial Commissioner observed that this auspicious day has great religious and cultural significance and is celebrated by the Kashmiri Pandit community with great zeal and enthusiasm. Dr. Mehta advised the officers to facilitate the local community by ensuring best possible arrangements for the celebration of the festival.
He directed the officers to ensure supply of adequate essentials commodities in the markets, especially around migrant camps and areas where Kashmiri Pandit (KPs) community lives in larger number. Horticulture and Floriculture departments were particularly told to establish special mandies to facilitate local community to buy flowers and dry fruits. Jammu Municipal Corporation was entrusted the task to provide sanitation facilities.
Mahashivratri festival is celebrated annually by the followers of Lord Shiva among Hindu community, especially by Kashmiri Pandits to commemorate the marriage of the lord Shiva with Parvati and is scheduled to be celebrated on 21st of this month across J&K.
