Early Times Report

RAJOURI, Feb 7: The Revenue Department of Rajouri district has been earning bad name due to corrupt practices being done by its officials particularly its lower rung officials, who have been committing unethical acts in lieu of commissions.
Sources told Early Times that the many of officials of Revenue Department have allegedly amassed huge movable and immovable properties in their respective district as well as in other districts also by doing corrupt practices.
Recently a political organization had staged protest demonstration alleging that revenue officials change record of Forest lands and sell to the people. A case was also reached to the department where a Girdawar was found taking bribe for making ALC, who later was attached with DC Rajouri office.
"The officials like Patwaris and Girdawars have been allegedly involved in corruption, they never provide services to the general public without taking commission due to which their properties have increased manifolds. If proper investigation is made, there is huge difference between their salaries and the properties which they have accumulated since their appointment in the department," they said.
They said further adding that many revenue officials have reportedly constructed their houses on Custodian Department land by changing revenue records illegally. "They also earn money by settling land cases as mediator. In order to adjust their black money, these officials have bought property in Jammu district,' they alleged.
"There should be a free and fare investigation about movable and immovable properties of these officials from Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) and Crime Branch (CB) to bring out the facts. Revenue office at Sunderbani Sub Division has become the most corrupt in the district," said the prominent citizens including Dheeraj Sharma from Kalakote , Dev Raj Sharma a social worker from Sunderbani, Sayeed Shadab Shah Social Activist and Chowdhary Rabiya Shafiq Social Activist from Rajouri.
They further said that theses officials harass general public a lot and never deliver services without taking money. "They are never found in offices as they run their official business from hired accommodation which they make their offices and all unethical works are done here. Government should make mandatory their presence in the tehsil offices for certain day in a week so that people may not suffer," they said.
When contacted a senior revenue official ACR Rajouri Mohammad Ashraf, he said that action will be taken against erring officials if any complaint is received by the office.
