Fire broke out in Sawmill; 3 firefighters died, 6 injured in fire

JAMMU, Feb 12: Three firefighters were killed and six persons injured as a three-storey building collapsed early on Wednesday in Talab Tillo area of Jammu city, when fire department personnel were trying to put out a blaze, that broke out around 4:30 this morning.
“Fire tenders from Fire Stations Canal, Roop Nagar, City, and Gandhi Nagar rushed to the spot at 4:50 am, after a message was received at Fire Control Room Gandhi Nagar that a fire has broken out at a Saw Mill near Gole Pulley, Talab Tiloo, Jammu”, said, Mohammad Yaqoob Dar, Administrative Officer, Fire and Emergency Services, J&K in a statement.
“5 Fire Service personnel were trapped under the collapsed structure. Two of them were rescued immediately viz Puran Singh LFM and Satpaul LFM, besides 4 civilians who were shifted to GMC Bakshi Nagar”, he said and added, “After great efforts the trapped firefighters were evacuated in an unconscious condition and shifted to GMC Bakshi Nagar Jammu where they were declared brought dead by hospital authorities.”
“Three bodies of firefighters, Vimal Kumar Raina, Rattan Chand and Mohammad Aslam have been retrieved, who were trapped under the debris of the collapsed building”, he said, adding that six people including two firefighters injured in the fire have been hospitalized. “DG Fire and Emergency Services, VK Singh conveyed his deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families”, Dar said.
“Two firefighters Ram Singh and Satpaul, including four civilians Amit Gupta, Gurpreet Singh, Lokesh and Rohit injured in the fire have been hospitalized. One of the firemen is being treated for serious burn injuries, the other is undergoing treatment for head injuries”, said a senior Police officer, adding that there was a huge stock of timber in the sawmill and a gas cylinder which exploded during the fire caused the building collapse. “The District Magistrate has constituted a probe penal headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu, to enquire the incident”, he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that on June 11, 2019 a devastating fire broke out in a timber factory at Toph Sherkhanian area along Jammu-Akhnoor.
