Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 12: After lapse of over four years since the announcement of financial aid under Prime Minister Rehabilitation Package for Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK) and Chamb refugees, over 20 percent of the families have still not got the financial aid.
Moreover despite announcement by Union government to include 5,300 left out families in the rehabilitation package, technically they are not included due to fact that most of the families had not resettled in Jammu and Kashmir. If these left out families are also included, then the total families who have not got the compensation so far will account for over 30 percent of the total families.
According to the data available, a total of 31,619 displaced families from POJK were registered with erstwhile state government, out of which 26,319 families got registered and settled in Jammu & Kashmir and 5,300 families initially registered with PRO and moved to other parts of the country. Moreover during 1965 and 1971, 10,065 families registered as displaced families from Chhamb Niabat area.
The total displaced families were 41,684 families out of which 5,300 were initially not included for the financial aid under Prime Minister Rehabilitation Package announced in December 2016, according to which Rs. 5.50 Lakhs was to be paid to per family registered after migration in the year 1947.
As per the details available out of the 36,384 families eligible for the financial, only 29,490 families had got the compensation while 6,954 have not got the financial aid after the lapse of over four years.
Moreover in the month of September 2019, the Union government had approved the inclusion of those displaced families of PoJK, out of 5,300 families, who initially moved out of Jammu and Kashmir, but later on returned and settled in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the refugee leaders, only 400 families out of 5,300 families had returned and settled in Jammu and Kashmir while remaining of the refugees never returned to Jammu and Kashmir and would not be eligible for the package as per the order.
