Swine Flu Lab is functional; H1N1 Lab will be dedicated to people soon

JAMMU, FEB 12: Principal and Dean of Government Medical College Jammu Sunanda Raina has highlighted the works being undertaken for creation of facilities for molecular diagnosis of Swine Flu and other epidemics to tackle with the situation arising due to Swine Flu virus, Eboda virus, HIV, Bird Flu etc.
She informed that the works were taken up during the year 2014-15 which included construction of separate Isolation Ward, H1N1 Lab Infrastructure (including Machinery & Equipments), H1N1 (Equipments/Instruments/Kits and consumables).
She said that construction of separate Isolation Ward at an estimated cost of Rs. 300 lakh stands completed with an expenditure of Rs. 285.63 lakh as on date. The expenditure has been incurred on civil works including gas pipeline, electrical works, furniture etc. As on date, the Isolation Ward having a capacity of 33 beds has been completed and made functional.
She further informed that the infrastructure for H1N1 Lab is being built by Bio Safe Lab India Pvt. Ltd. at an estimated cost of Rs. 343.16 lakh against which Rs. 330.00 lakh stands sanctioned an additional amount of Rs. 13.16 lakh is required. 65 % work has been completed and rest will be completed by March, 2020.
She said that the total estimated cost of H1N1 Equipments/ Instruments/ Kits and Consumables is Rs. 106.19 lakh for which Rs. 100 lakh stands approved under Languishing Project being funded by JKIDFC in its 6th HPC. The requisite items are being procured through JKMSCL and order stands placed.
She added that against the work done claims of Rs. 1.35 Crore, an amount of Rs. 77.58 lakh has been released in favour of the executing agency. Moreover, this office has accorded an extension to the executing agency upto ending March, 2020 with the condition to complete the wok in all respect within the extended timeframe due to delay in release of funds.
