Major demolition drive launched in Tral, illegal construction removed

Srinagar, Mar 4: A major demolition drive was launched on Wednesday in Tral’s main town in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district of, official sources said.
Meanwhile, Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA), Enforcement Wing and district administration Badgam demolished illegal constructions in Dal Lake area and Friends Colony near Srinagar International Airport during the past 24 hours.
The demolishing drive was launched in the main Tral town near the bus stand at 0600 hrs on Wednesday, sources told today.
There are more than two dozen illegal shops constructed on government land near the bus stand which often result in traffic jam in the area, they said adding five shops have so farbeen razed to the ground after they were served notices few days ago.
Sources said over 20 other shopkeepers were also directed to remove their belonging from their illegal shops before the shops are demolished later today.
The drive will continue today, they said adding people are requested not to construct illegal shops and houses on government land.
An official spokesman said that LAWDA, Enforcement Wing demolished one single storey house, 2nd floor of another house and two shops at Nishat Braine, Pahloo Manzgam on the bank of the Dal Lake.
He said that the Enforcement Wing will continue with the demolition of illegal construction in and around Dal and Nigeen Lakes.
The Tipper and Load carrier owners have been directed not to carry construction material in the prohibited areas of Dal and Nigeen Lakes without permission.
However, people of the area questioned that when theses illegal houses and shops were being contrusted where were the LAWDA officials.
Meanwhile, the district administration demolished many constructions carried out by several former and present police officers at Friends Colony Airport. The officials said that demolishing drive will continue in the colony, where mostly former ministers, legislators and former and present bureaucrats and police officers reside.
People of nearby Humhama locality lauded the district administration for demolishing the illegal constructions in the colony.
