Shocking! Teacher transferred for raising alarm over encroachment of school land

Early Times Report

Anantnag, Mar 4: : In a shocking incident, a government teacher was transferred and an enquiry initiated against him a day after he raised alarm against the encroachment of school land in Bulbul-Nowgam village of this South Kashmir district.
Deputy Chief Education Officer Anantnag, Mushtaq Ahmad Wani sought an explanation from a teacher for appearing on electronic media on 26th of last month for commenting on the ‘administrative issues’ of the department and subsequently transferred the vigilant teacher.
The officer, according to the letter vide No. CEO/A/IMV/33477-81/20 dated 27-02-2020, a copy of which lies with Early Times, has no right to speak on the administrative issues.
Teacher, Khursheed Ahmad of Government Middle School Bulbul Nowgam Achabal had raised issue of encroachment of school land, but the officials of education department, instead of taking appropriate action against the encroachers, preferred to victimize their own teacher.
Khursheed Ahmad didn’t speak to Early Times as he fears that some officials of the department might get him ‘removed’ from the services. “I don’t want to lose my job,” he said and dropped the call.
Highly placed sources told Early Times that the encroachers are highly influential and they are doing everything to stop administration from retrieving the land they have encroached.
Chief Education Officer Anantnag admitted that the teacher was transferred on his directions. “Yes I approved his transfer and the order was issued by Deputy Chief Education Officer because the teacher didn’t bring up the issue into the notice of his immediate officer,” CEO said.
Contradicting with Deputy Chief Education Officer’s order, according to which the teacher was punished for commenting on administrative issues, CEO said that his department hasn’t restrained teachers from speaking to media on issues of public importance.
Ironically, Chief Education Officer is unaware of the fact that the head teacher of Government Middle School Bulul-Nowgam has brought up the encroachment of school land issue into the notice of Zonal Educational Officer, Chief Education Officer, SSP Anantnag, Assistant Commissioner Anantnag and Deputy Commissioner Anantnag in December last year and sought action against the encroachers.
The Government had allotted land measuring six kanals and four Marlas to Government Middle School Bulul-Nowgam in 2005 for the construction of School Building; however a group of influential people are encroaching the school land and also disrupting the atmosphere around the school.
