J&K's transition into UT sends many packing
ACB becomes active, central agencies maintain strict vigil
3/4/2020 10:59:16 PM
Early Times Report
jammu, Mar 4: Transition of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State into a Union Territory has paved the way for application of central laws into J&K UT. This has also provided teeth to the central agencies to investigate cases related to terrorism, graft or any scam in the newly carved out UT without seeking any consent from the administration.
An observer while talking to Early Times said that anti-graft agencies becoming powerful in Jammu and Kashmir seem to have helped in curbing the corruption to some extent. "Complaints of corruption have witnessed a decline. The culture in the government offices is changing fast and it appears that officials are taking their jobs seriously," the observer added.
He said prior to J&K's reorganization on August 5, 2019, situation in J&K was completely different. "Politicians, who ruled J&K in the past made tall promises about wiping out corruption from the system, but their promises proved to be hoax as nothing changed on the ground," he added.
The observer said that during the past few months, Anti Corruption Bureau of Jammu and Kashmir seems to have become "very active" on the other hand agencies like Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) too are taking cognizance of the offences which are being committed across the length and breadth of the J&K UT.
An analyst said, "The elements who in the past used to make fast money by misusing their position seem to have gone into their shells. They have realized that times have changed and they cannot get away if they are caught."
He said, "It took 70-years for system to change. People who were a part of the old system are now part of new system. This system is without the political masters, who used to make everyone dance to their tunes."
The analyst said, "When politicians were ruling J&K they used to ensure that the heads of departments and other officials visit their Durbars regularly. Ones who failed to appease their political masters had to face the wrath. Either they were posted to some far-flung area or they were given insignificant postings."
Another analyst said, "It looks like that the system has changed for the good and government officials have also changed their ways of functioning. The officials are no more busy in meetings. Instructions are clear that common people shouldn't face any inconvenience and every effort should be put to mitigate their sufferings."
