Srinagar, Mar 4: After witnessing pleasant weather during the last couple of days Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley was lashed by rain on Wednesday evening, resulting in dip in the maximum temperature.
Meanwhile, the night temperature improved and settled several degrees above normal due to overcast conditions across the valley, where rooftops of several houses were damaged due to high speed winds.
The authorities have issued weather advisory Thursday and Saturday, where an active Western Disturbance (WD) is most likely affect J&K.
‘’Under the influence of this WD, which originated from the Arabian Sea and approached the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan, moderate to heavy rain and snow would occur at isolated places,’’ a Met department spokesperson said, adding light rain and snow would occur at many places in the valley during this time.
There is possibility of thundershowers or hail story and gushing winds with a speed of 30-40 km per hour at few places of Kashmir during these three days, he further said.
He stated that this may lead to temporary disruption of surface and air transportation, including Srinagar-Jammu national highway and Sadhna pass. ‘’Farmers are advised to suspend Agricultural operations and drain out excess water from fields/orchards,’’ he added.
People in the summer capital, Srinagar woke up to a sunny Wednesday morning where the mercury improved about two degrees from Tuesday and settled at 4.1 degrees. However, as the day progressed, the skies turned cloudy following by incessant rain.
Rain also lashed world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, resulting in dip in the maximum temperature. The mercury in the health resort improved and settled at minus 1.2 degrees, against minus 2 degrees recorded on Tuesday.
Skies were cloudy at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, which were still covered under several feet of snow. However, the upper reaches in the ski resort received rain in the evening, resulting in dip in the maximum temperature.
