Corona Virus: Visitors screened, examined at check points on Punjab-J&K border

Jammu, Mar 4: In view of rising threat of coronavirus after some positive cases were reported in India, screening camps have been set up at check points along the Punjab-J&K border at Lakhanpur in Kathua district.
Jammu and Kashmir Police along with Health Department have been inquiring the visitors, including the pilgrims bound for Vaishno Devi and other tourists about their travel history both within India and other countries at these check points.
The vehicles are being intercepted and the police teams are holding deliberations and brief interactions with the people visiting to Jammu and Kashmir.
“Anybody found suspected of carrying flu like symptoms, are being taken to the medical units installed at these check points and if found positive, will be admitted at isolation wards in the Government Medical College and Hospital Kathua,” said an official.
He said that besides Indian citizens, some of the foreign nationals have also been intercepted and were examined at the health centres.
“We have installed placards, banners and posters at the gateway of the Punjab-J&K border requesting people that if anybody coming from the countries mentioned in the list, shall co-operate with the health and police teams,” he added.
He further said that so far, the people underwent medical check up at these check points, none has been found positive.
Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday said that the Union territory is in high alert state while 21 suspected cases have been tested till date and no positive case has been found so far.
“The situation is being closely monitored in Jammu and Kashmir to identify all suspected cases of the virus,” Principal Secretary, Planning and Monitoring and Information, Rohit Kansal, who is also the Government Spokesman here told reporters on Tuesday evening in view of emerging situation due to spread of COVID-19 virus commonly called Corona virus across the world.
He said that so far a total of 201 individuals have been contacted in Jammu and Kashmir. These include individuals who either had a travel history to countries such as China, South Korea, Iran, Thailand, Italy, South East Asia etc or came in contact with persons who had traveled to these countries,” and added, “21 suspected cases have been tested till date and no positive case has been reported so far across J&K.”
He further said, “100 per cent self declaration at the airports of Jammu and Srinagar will start from Wednesday to trace any such traveler having travel history to the infected countries. Further, check points for passengers travelling by road have been set up at Lakhanpur and Lower Munda (Zig) to identify individuals with travel history to these countries.”
