EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Mar 7: In an incident which brought disrepute to the entire Police Department, an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Jammu and Kashmir Police posted at Police Station Kishtwar was caught on camera while demanding and accepting the bribe from a driver whose vehicle was seized by Traffic Police for overloading that led to registration of an FIR against him at police station Kishtwar.
As per the details available with Early Times, the victim’s vehicle was found overloaded and accordingly an FIR under relevant sections of law was registered against the vehicle owner followed by seizure of his vehicle.
It was after the seizure of the vehicle and subsequent registration of an FIR, the driver of the vehicle pleaded for speedy disposal of sending report to court so that he can get his vehicle released for which the accused ASI demanded money to get the work done.
Conceding to the demand of ASI, the victim driver paid Rs 2000 to accused cop, who even after taking the amount refused to budge and demanded Rs 1000 more in addition to Rs 2000 which was accepted by him earlier.
Dejected by the behaviour of the ASI, the driver with the help of his friend laid a trap and recorded whole incident on camera wherein the ASI could be seen demanding money from the victim.
Following the uproar, Kishtwar Police lodged an FIR and initiated Departmental enquiry against ASI who has been identified as Abdul Subhan.
In a statement issued by Kishtwar police, it claimed that a video went viral on social media in which ASI Abdul Subhan of Police Station Kishtwar was found demanding and accepting bribe from some persons within the premises of Police Station. In the video the accused ASI could also be clearly listened to have use foul and unparliamentarily language.
Taking serious cognizance of the matter, a case FIR No 38/2020 under section 161 IPC and section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the erring officer at Police Station Kishtwar and investigation set into motion. The officer has been formally arrested in the case. Moreover, tainted officer has been placed under suspension and a departmental enquiry has also been initiated against him.
