Early times Report

Rajouri, Mar 12: A huge scam of over Rs 50 lakh has allegedly surfaced in Government PG College Rajouri in the garb of renovation of Boys Hostel.
The alleged illegality believed to be carried out in active collusion between executing agency and college administration.
Sources told Early Times that in view of the deplorable condition of General Boys Hostel, the College Administration was sanctioned over Rs 50 lakh by the Higher Education Department for carrying out necessary renovation works of the hostel.
“The work was allotted to PWD Rajouri, which apart from minor works, did nothing in the name of renovation and allegedly a big amount was siphoned off. After the execution of so called renovation, the washroom is still in terrible condition, geysers have not been fitted, even the earthing has not been done due to which students experienced electric shocks in past,” they said. They further said that the executing agency has carried out only whitewash just for the sake of an eyewash but all indispensable works were left without execution, which unjustified huge expenditure of Rs 50 lakh.
The students in Hostel alleged that the old furniture in the hostel was taken away by the executing agency. Besides, there is no drainage system in the hostel and no proper electrification.
The electricity wires can be seen hanging, substandard material was used in hostel, roof of the hostel is not renovated where pigeons have made their nest, the walls of hostel building are crumbling, the sanitary fitting in the washroom have been ignored, they alleged further adding that even electricity bulbs were not installed in the hostel by the work excuting agency and the students bought the same themselves by collecting money.
The Hostel Warden, Prof Javed Mughal, when contacted, informed Early Times that whenever he contacted the PWD regarding many incomplete works, he was replied by the executing agency that remaining work will be done. He also demanded investigation in the expenditure of Rs 50 lakh over renovation of hostel. He also expressed shock that over the irresponsible approach of PWD.
Principal of College said that no handover and takeover has been done in this project still but shockingly, when Early Times contacted Executive Engineer PWD Rajouri for his comments, he said that handover and takeover of hostel building has been done. "No work is left to be completed in the hostel", said the Executive Engineer PWD.
The aggrieved students appealed to Lieutenant Governor to direct the higher authority to conduct inquiry into this scam.
