SRINAGAR, Mar 24: The union territory of Jammu & Kashmir saw a quantum jump in the Corona Virus cases after three more persons tested positive in the Kashmir division. The same has been confirmed at the official level.
At the same time the government said that the lady patient who became the first COVID-19 patient in the valley has recovered. As on date there are three Corona Virus affected patients in Kashmir while as number of such patients is three as well in Jammu division.
Three more people were declared COVID-19 positive after their reports were received from the designated laboratories in Kashmir valley.
Director Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura, Dr. Abdul Gani Ahangar said that there are four positive cases of Corona Virus in Kashmir. Dr. Ahanger said that while one patient tested positive at the Institute last week two others tested positive at the Chest Disease Hospital in Srinagar.
The Director SKIMS said that test of one suspect that was sent to the Institute from Government Medical College, Baramulla has been found out to be positive. He said the patient admitted at the Institute is the lady who became the first COVID-19 patient of Kashmir valley after she returned from Umrah last week.
Later in the day the government said that the first Corona Virus patient of the valley has recovered at SKIMS-Soura. The GMC Baramulla admitted patient is a resident of Bandipora.
Spokesman for the Jammu & Kashmir government Rohit Kansal tweeted, "Another positive case in Kashmir division. Patient, from Bandipora, with history of travel outside J&K but no history of travel abroad. Contact tracing on." Kansal issued a clarification later saying that although the patient belongs to Bandipora he is being treated at GMC Baramulla.
Earlier in the day the government spokesman said that two more cases reported positive in Srinagar. He in the tweet said that one of the two persons has confirmed travel history outside India adding that full details regarding the second being ascertained.
Meanwhile, it has come to the fore that one among the two Srinagar residents is a native of Natipora and had returned from Saudi Arabia on March 16 in the same flight (443-Air India) which was boarded by the 67-year-old woman who tested positive on March 18. He had reported to the CD hospital only a couple of days back.
The other person is said to be a resident of Hyderpora Srinagar, aged around 65-years, who had returned from New Delhi recently after being part of a 'Tablighi Jamaat' attended by people from Indonesia and Malaysia.
According to the daily media bulletin issued by the government it has been said that 2,928 persons have been kept under home quarantine while as 71 are in hospital quarantine. Persons who are under home surveillance stand at 1268 while as 498 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period.
The bulletin said that 279 samples have been sent for testing of which 253 tested as negative. Only six persons have tested positive so far and of them only five are active positive and one patient has recovered. The bulletin further stated that 20 reports are awaited till March 24, 2020.
