EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 1: Former Mayor Jammu and President All India Jat Mahasabha J&K Choudhary Manmohan Singh today appealed to Lt Governor GC Murmu and MoS in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh to look into the issue of the stranded residents of Jammu, working as labour in Maharashtra state.
He informed that there are hundreds of people, most of them hailing from Distt Kathua and Distt Samba which have taken up work in Maharashtra and since the pandemic, they find themselves stuck there. Choudhary Manmohan Singh said that he himself have been contacted by their families and is in touch with many of these people. They conveyed their troubles and told him about they do not have the funds or food available.
We request to our state authorities that they should contact Maharashtra Govt and ask them to supply food items to these people.
Singh requested the authorities to make provisions for bringing these people back. Their transfer can be done in a phased manner or whatever authorities seem safe and convenient. It is imperative that proper norms of safety be maintained, keeping in mind the rules to be followed to contain the COVID-19 virus. The authorities should reach out to these people as soon as possible and make arrangements to bring them home, he added.
