Netas’ concentrate on ‘vote-bank’ in ration distribution

Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 15: The popular political faces of Congress and BJP are now back on the business to ‘en-cash politically’ the ongoing lockdown triggered by deadly COVID-19 pandemic and in the guise of helping ‘poor and needy’, the Netas are busy in strengthening vote bank via ration distribution to their supporters ignoring the deserving lot.
Adding to the miseries of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families and slum dwellers in this regard are those at the helm of affairs. Sources informed that many poor families hit by the ongoing lockdown were visited by some social and religious organizations with help.
“Otherwise earning on daily basis, many auto-rickshaw drivers, mini-bus cleaners etc who are now without any work due to the lockdown are facing the problem of food,” an office bearer of a social organization said.
“Volunteers from religious places are collecting donations from public to buy ration for distribution among such poor families,” he said. It is pertinent to mention here that there are several slum pockets in Jammu city in places like Bagh-e-Bahu, Bhagwati Nagar, Bhatindi etc. Similar views were echoed by many Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Councillors. Surprisingly, the dark reality behind the ration distribution by tall politicians, including ex-Ministers and MLAs, has also come-out.
“A heavy weight leader of our party is busy these days in ration distribution to his supporters and sympathizers on the name of help to poor and needy people,” a senior Congress leader said on the condition of not being named. He was referring to a senior congress leader who also remained a cabinet minister.
“The so called human gesture is only misusing the name of poor and needy people while our senior-most leader is only strengthening his vote-bank,” a senior BJP leader said maintaining anonymity.
Such political mileage is mostly seen in the Gandhi Nagar constituency with many locals making claims that supporters of the politicians from two big national political parties along with illegally settled Rohingyas are being favoured as beneficiaries in ration distribution process.
