5/17/2020 9:38:15 PM
Early Times Report

Kathua, May 17: Former Minister & President DCC Kathua Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma today showed serious concern on non-availability of water in many villages of billawar and Kandi belt of Billawar constituency. Manohar said different villages of upper kadetar, lower kadetar, prangoli,, upper dhod, mangloor falling under Kandi sub division Hiranagar, and Lakhri, Khobe morh, Upper durang, Sanged falling under Lakhri Sub division billawar are facing acute shortage for water from past 2-3 months as majority of water pumps, pipes have worn out. Further he alleged that these areas has been facing shortage of drinking water as the PHE Department had not supplied water to their areas for the past several months and said non availability of water tanker supply and routine water supply is further adding to their woes during this period of national lockdown due to Covid-19 .
Manohar said to cater the scarcity of water especially in Kandi belt many wells and hand pumps were dug during his tenure but majority of them were not commissioned during by the previous BJP government and the ones working has also now broke down due to non-maintenance by the Dep’t. . Raising another burning issue ,Manohar said approx. 70-80 % families under BPL category in billawar assembly has been deprived of ration as their names has been stuck down from BPL lists by the concerned department and termed it as unjustified especially in this difficult hour of nationwide lockdown.
He said pick and choose method has been adopted by finalizing the list as the persons as who were under BPL category 2-3 months back has now been struck off the list. Manohar said poor laborers, widows, landless people has been excluded from the list which is very unfortunate. He said only 20-30 % of people are getting ration under BPL and termed distribution as mere eyewash as only near and dears are getting ration.
In last Manohar urged the concerned department and the district administration to look in to matter on urgent basis as hot summer season is on the head and kandi belt is already facing water supply shortage.
