Govt orders on COVID-19 quarantine centers being violated in Patnitop, alleges hotel association
President writes to DC Udhampur, seeks his intervention
5/23/2020 11:40:08 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 23: Patnitop Hotels & Restaurant Association has alleged that government orders vis-à-vis hotels being used as quarantine centers at Patnitop are being violated.
In a letter addressed to Deputy Commissioner Udhampur (J&K) the president of the association, Harcharan Singh has said: “This is in continuation to my e-mail sent to you on 13 May 2020. I on behalf of the members of Hotel & Restaurant Association Patnitop would like to bring into light some crucial facts.” “As per your Order No: 658/DMU/JC dated: 12.05.2020 a list of 30 hotels was issued out of which only 27 have been takeover since 12.05.2020 by Administration. The team that has been appointed to allot the hotels to quarantined centers is using favoritism. They are in connivance with few hotels namely Hotel Greentop, Hotel Vinns Resort (Hotel Vardaan) & Hotel Samson. These hotels have surprisingly not been allotted for quarantine centers. Three of these hotels are part of your order list and are within the surrounding of the hotels that are acquired. It is requested to you kindly inquire the reason of their refusal,” the letter states.
It states: “The designated team has taken over these quarantined centers defying you order. Also, the administration did not follow the guidelines & norms/procedure of NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority). No hotels premises are sanitized before the arrival of these quarantined persons. Few Tourism Department Staff handed over these quarantined guests to the hotel and left them in the hotel parking without handing over any information.” The letter states: “No information was provided in reference to the allotment of the rooms of the guests. No roster and allotment list was given for the arrangements of the quarantined persons. No safety gears/equipment i.e gloves, masks, sanitizers were included or provided at all, while at the time of arrival or before. No Medical Staff, No Medical Assistance, No J&K Police Personals, No Tourism Staff was present for the medical surveillance. No procedure was followed; no surveillance or monitoring was done which led to their free movement in and around the premises. This negligence can out spread the virus in Patnitop region. Patnitop being a rural village area will get hold of the virus which can lead to an upheaval situation. We tried our level best to reach the member of your team, Assistant Director, J&K Tourism Umesh Shan. However, he did not respond to our calls. My major concern remains the same that Patnitop was a COVID-free zone up till 12.05.2020, however due to this over sightedness, I am afraid that by now many have affected the people around. Needless to say, if Patnitop region brings up new COVID positive cases, amongst the hotel staff or local villagers and public, Administration solely will be liable. I would like to say that we as hoteliers are cooperating with the Government but no one is concerned about our safety.
