Death toll due to COVID-19 reaches 21 in JK, 80 fresh cases reported

SRINAGAR, May 23: The death toll due to Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 21 today as a woman from Kulgam died at Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura. In the meantime 80 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported today. Reports said that a woman belonging to Uranhal in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district passed away at SKIMS-Soura this morning. The woman was having some other ailments and as she was admitted in the isolation ward of the hospital where she passed away today.
So far 21 persons have died due to COVID-19 in Jammu & Kashmir. Nineteen COVID-19 deaths have taken place in Kashmir and two from Jammu region. Srinagar recorded six deaths, Anantnag and Baramulla four deaths each, Budgam two and Kulgam two deaths each while as Bandipora, Jammu and Udhampur recording one death each.
Meanwhile, reports said that Kupwara reported 36 fresh cases of Corona Virus followed by Ramban 14 cases, Anantnag six cases, Kulgam five cases, Jammu, Pulwama and Baramulla four cases each, Srinagar three cases, Bandipora, Kathua, Kishtwar and Poonch one case each.
The Jammu & Kashmir government informed that 80 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 21 from Jammu division and 59 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 1569. Also, one COVID-19 patient died today at SKIMS, Soura.
Out of 1569 positive cases, 774 are active positive, 774 have recovered and 21 have died; two in Jammu division and 19 in Kashmir division. Moreover, 54 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, two from Jammu division and 52 from Kashmir division. The bulletin further said that out of 1, 24,074 test results available, 1, 22,505 samples have been tested as negative till May 23, 2020.
Additionally, till date 1, 30,197 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 32,056 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 74 in hospital quarantine, 774 in hospital isolation and 26,686 under home surveillance. Besides, 70,586 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Anantnag district has 272 positive cases, with 159 active positive, 109 recovered, four deaths; Kulgam has 198 positive cases, with 184 active positive and 12 recoveries, two deaths, Srinagar has 179 positive cases with 54 active positive, 119 recovered, six deaths; Bandipora has 139 positive cases with nine active positive, 129 recovered, one death;
“Kupwara has 164 positive cases with 94 active positive, 70 recovered; Baramulla has 136 positive cases with 34 active positive, 98 recovered, four deaths; Shopian has 127 positive cases with 21 active positive, 106 recovered; Budgam has 63 positive cases, with 26 active positive and 35 recovered cases and two deaths; Ganderbal has 27 positive cases with 12 active cases and 15 recoveries and Pulwama reported 25 positive cases with 16 active positive, nine recovered,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 72 positive cases with 40 active positive cases and 31 recoveries and one death; Ramban has 44 positive cases with 43 active positive and one recovered; Kathua has 41 positive cases with 35 active positive and six recovered; Udhampur has 33 positive cases with 11 active positive cases, 21 recovered and one death; Samba has 20 positive cases with 13 active positive and seven recoveries;
“Rajouri has 10 positive cases with six active positive cases and four recovered; Kishtwar has eight positive cases with seven active positive case and one recovered; Reasi has four positive cases with three active positive and one recovered, Poonch has six active positive cases while as Doda has one active positive case,” reads the bulletin.
The advisory has informed the public in general that all passengers/returnees coming to UT of J&K, whether by road, rail or air will have to compulsorily undergo a COVID-19 test following which they will be under administrative quarantine for 14 days, if their test result is negative they will be sent for home quarantine and if positive they would be sent to a COVID hospital for recovery and treatment.
”People are strongly advised to avoid going to crowded places, as they are more likely to come into close contact with someone who has COVID-19 and it is more difficult to maintain physical distance with others at these places”, as per the bulletin. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
