Failed, grounded Omar venting frustration against Malik: Suri

Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 24: "National Conference (NC) and People's Democratic Party (PDP) never empowered local bodies as well as Panchayats and continued to rule through centralised powers only. It was NC-Congress regime that deliberately allowed Municipal Corporations and local bodies to lapse and never held polls to them despite making announcements repeatedly. Former CM and dethroned dynast Omar Abdullah himself had lied several times by announcing dates of polls but never held them". This was stated by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member Raman Suri, who added that former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's outburst against former Governor Satya Pal Malik is justified as the latter not only exposed these dynasts but also made them realise that they were mere public representatives and not princes or kings who looted Jammu and Kashmir and never allowed democratic institutions to flourish here. Raman Suri said that Omar Abdullah's outburst, is nothing but frustration. Having promoted separatism, encouraged corruption, looted Central funds, undermined democratic institutions and not held elections to local bodies, leaders like Omar and Mehbooba Mufti are hiding behind walls of Kashmiriyat which they don't know anything about. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah and PDP leaders deliberately chose not to participate in local body polls, thereby undermining the power of democracy and depriving their own people of opportunity to lead masses. Since these parties always rigged polls, they feared that this time it won't be possible and additionally they had nothing to give to people except false assurances, which is why they backed out from polls, Raman Suri said. Satya Pal Malik, he added was right in telling that two regional parties had refused to participate in the polls (in Jammu and Kashmir) under Pakistan’s pressure. Raman Suri said that had these novice political scions been serious, they would have delivered.
