The Need for Value Education
5/24/2020 11:55:02 PM

Omkar Dattatray

In the modern society there is a great and urgent need for value education. There is total value crisis in the society and there is deterioration in the value system and the urgent need is to give value education to the younger generation .Commissions after commissions have been appointed in the paste to revamp the education and to suggest the ways and means to give value education to the children but inspite of this very little has been done to give moral education to the youth. In today’s India materialistic attitude towards life is all that is stressed but the fact remains that we should give moral and ethical education to children along with the bread and butter education. There is moral degradation all around in our society and money is becoming the be all and end all of life and education and this attitude has to be addressed and there is need for revamping of the moral education .We have no dearth of the scientists and technocrats but we are deficient in producing good human beings who will work for the society and brighten the future of the country. Therefore what is needed is to give a proper place to the moral education so that people with moral character will be produced and this can be possible only when moral education will be imported along with the formal education .It should be made mandatory to pass ion moral education by a student to enable him to promote to the next class .But in this respect we are lacking and therefore we should give top most attention to the moral education so that noble and worthy citizens will be produced for running of a successful democracy. So we should impart moral education along with bread and butter education. The dishonesty has made great inroads into our society and this if unchecked will bring a disaster in the society and therefore we should make a provision for passing in the subject of moral studies. Thus passing in the moral studies should be made compulsory for all the students’ upto class 10th and for this curriculum for the moral studies should be prepared and given importance. Since there is all round moral decay in the society, so the education planners should plan for giving moral education to the children and for this all the arrangements should be made. Therefore moral and ethical education should be made fundamental and basic for all classes upto 10th standard .There is thus need to do proper planning for giving of moral education .According to Vivekananda the aim of education should be man making and character making and so we should focus on character education so that a society of noble men will be produced who will have great regard for the moral and ethical values. Therefore value education should be made a foundation of the modern education and so we should give emphasis on the production of the noble men and women who can shape the destiny of the nation. Therefore importance should be given to moral, ethical and spiritual education. We should not give religious education to the children but give them education about the great religions of the world. So it is necessary to impart value education to the children so that an army of noble persons will be created to run and manage the affairs of the state. Thus there is utmost need for value education for the children and it should be given to inculcate moral values in the children. The sooner it is done the better. There is moral degradation all around and to arrest the growing trend of moral decay we should impart moral and spiritual education to our young ones so that a morally viable society will be framed and shaped. It fallows that the education planners should plan for giving of moral education so that we can produce a morally strong people to man the positions in the long run. This will become possible only when moral education is given to the children. Otherwise there will be moral chaos and confusion in the society. Therefore to arrest this undesirable trend moral education is the panacea and so moral education should be given to the children to tide over the moral crises. Let us all contribute in this task of giving of moral and ethical education to the children so that a morally good society can be framed.
