COVID-19: SALUTING THE FRONT LINE WARRIORS
5/24/2020 11:55:11 PM

Dr. Parveen Kumar, Dr. D. Namgyal

No one had ever imagined that the year 2020 would be a catastrophic one of such a magnitude. From the day when the incidents of the deadly corona virus were first reported from Wuhan province of China, the humanity since then has been at the declining end. The deadly virus has so far consumed three lakh forty one thousand two hundred and forty five lives. The no. of Corona positive cases in the world stand at fifty three lakh fifty one thousand nine hundred twenty six. In India the no. of corona positive cases have also gone up to one lakh twenty five thousand one hundred one and deaths have reached at three thousand seven hundred twenty. The no. of cases recovered have been fifty one thousand seven hundred eighty four. All the figures are as published in The Tribune May 24, 2020.
Everything has been happening at such an alarming speed. What was more unfortunate and shocking that the governments look confused, international agencies have to bite the dust and no one had any concrete plan for what to do and how to tackle this deadly virus. The world had to head for a total shut down. The only remedy till date has been some social distancing measures which definitely paid off. Reports reveal that the no. of deaths in the country would have been touched one lakh, had lock down and social distancing measures not been in place. The timely action by the government at the centre as well as by the respective state government helped to prevent large scale spread of the disease in the country. Today the country has largely been successful in containing the spread of this virus and this has been no less than a battle. This battle could not have been won without our front line warriors who without caring for their lives and families were at the forefront. Some of them even fell to this virus. COVID-19 needs to be fought at many levels; not just with technology but also by catering to various needs of society and frontline workers who are fighting against this pandemic. Doctors, health workers, police and municipal employees, who are at the frontline, are taking a greater risk of getting infected by Corona virus. These frontline warriors are fighting diligently to contain the spread of this virus. The entire world is indebted by their sheer determination, will power and selfless sacrifice.
The country really will be indebted to the medical fraternity. The doctors, the nurses, the paramedical staff, the drivers and all others involved in this noble profession of saving mankind have been working tirelessly 24*7 to ensure that the susceptible cases are being traced, the traced are then tested and the positive ones are treated and finally handed over to their families in a dignified way. Many of these health workers have also lost their life while getting infected when
treating the corona positive patients. Their contribution is worthless. The Police men are also an integral part of this fight is the police department who have been working round the clock to keep the streets safe and to ensure that people stay home during the lockdown period. These peoples are fighting on a dual front. While on the one hand they fought unwaveringly for the cause of fighting corona positive cases, on the other hand they also are taking care of maintaining law and order in the country. The pictures of policemen sleeping on the roadside are more than enough to show their support to the country in these fighting hours. The bank employees also stood with the nation in these testing times. Although the country was in a lock down position; yet the banks were open and the bank employees were rendering their services effectively catering to the financial needs of the peoples at large. The delivery boys who went door to door providing essential items to peoples putting their life at risk also need to be given credit. The media also played an important role in this fight against the deadly virus. The ground reporting from the media persons helped the govt. to have an idea of the extent of threat in a particular area and devise the strategy accordingly. The media also highlighted the malafide or corrupt practices. The farming community also played its part by ensuring timely harvest of wheat so that the country’s food grain requirements are met.
Various online tools and equipments have also been developed which have supplemented the efforts of the peoples in their fight to contain the spread of virus. The government of Kerala has developed an app GoK Direct that gives information to peoples about everything related to COVID-19 directly from the Chief Minister’s office. The sanitation workers, the tailors, the philanthropists, all organizations of the country who fed the needy, prepared masks, helped in spreading awareness, arranged for the return of migrants to their native states and all others who were directly or indirectly stood with the government in these hours also deserve appreciation. All of them are still working tirelessly to ensure safety, security and smooth functioning during these trying times. Hon’ble Prime Minister of the country Sh. Narendra Modi also addressed an event in honour of frontline warriors of Covid-19 on the occasion of Buddha Purnima. Buddha Purnima is a major religious event in Bodhgaya in Bihar where Buddha is said to have attained enlightenment.
On May 3, Indian Air Force (IAF) expressed the gratitude towards all the corona heroes fighting in the frontline in this war against COVID-19 by showering flowers at hospitals across 23 locations in the country and carrying out fly-pasts across different cities. From Mumbai to Delhi to Guwahati to Leh, the defence force’s helicopters were seen flying over various places to give the aerial salutes. The corona warriors are doing their part for the nation. Let's do our part by thanking them through messages, wishes, etc in order to enable us to live safely at our homes. Rhonda Byrne had said that, ‘There are two words that, when spoken, have the most
unfathomable power to completely change your life. Two words which, when they pass your lips, will be the cause of bringing absolute joy and happiness to you. Two words that will create miracles in your life, two words that will wipe out negativity, two words that will bring you abundance in all things. Two words which, when uttered and sincerely felt, will summon all the forces and vibrations in the Universe to move all things for you. The only thing standing between you, happiness, and the life of your dreams is two words THANK YOU’. Let us all say ‘THANK YOU’ to all the corona warriors.
