Early Times Report

Srinagar, June 12: Even as the world is trying hard to maintain social distancing norms in a bid to fight Covid-19 and Jammu has been equally showing the way to social distancing, the people of Kashmir are ignoring all such guidelines only to eat wazwaan on Trami as the wedding season has picked up in the valley.
In the wake of lockdown to fight the pandemic, while the rest of world has given up community meals, Kashmir has introduced a novel method to enjoy Wazwan.
While the cook or Waza who serves the traditional food is seen wearing PPEs at wedding ceremonies being celebrated in Kashmir, the guests have been brazenly violating the social distancing norms.
Four people continue to share a common plate of Trami on which food is served. This has been happening when Kashmir has seen a sudden rise in the number of positive cases.
Sources in the last around a fortnight around a hundred families prepared Wazwan that was served on Tramis, thereby making speared of the deadly virus quite easy.
“By eating on Trami, you are inviting four persons to get infected instantly,” said a health expert.
While the government has recently maintained that only 50 guests will be allowed for weddings with prior approval and such norms are strictly implemented in Jammu, sources said most of the families in Kashmir are avoiding to even get formal permission.
“Such parties are being held in violation of norms,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
Talking to Early Times the official said there was a need that the government formally bans use of Trami for the time being.
“Unless the use of Trami is formally banned by the government till the infection is controlled, it’ll be a cause of community spread of infection,” the official said.
Sources said the issue was recently brought to the notice of the administration in Kashmir but that any formal decision was awaited.
When contacted a senior official said the matter has come to their notice and that it was being discussed for future course of action.
