Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, June 16: Rules continue to be flouted at the Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JK EDI) with the lead role being played by the Executive Director of the Institute. The violation of government orders amid COVID-19 pandemic has put the lives of its employees at risk.
Sources told Early Times that one of the senior officers of EDI has tested positive for the Corona Virus. They said that almost a week after he was asked to join his duties at Pampore campus of the Institute, where he reportedly interacted with scores of his colleagues, the officer tested positive for the Corona Virus last Thursday. The infected officer has been put under quarantine at a government hospital. “The officer got himself tested in Srinagar as he had been directed by the Institute authorities to report to his duties in Jammu division.
As a responsible officer he followed SOP and got himself tested before actually leaving for Jammu office,” said sources. They said that his test report was available on Thursday and he was accordingly placed under quarantine by the health department.
Sources said the Institute premises at Pampore were closed for two days, following the panic it created among the other employees. However the million dollar question that needs an answer here is why was the Institute and all its centres were open despite a complete government order of closure of all educational, training and teaching institutions till June 15, 2020.
“JKEDI, being a training institute has been given the main mandate to train unemployed youth for establishment of self employment units and provide them financial linkage under different government schemes. The Executive Director of the Institute simply ignored the government orders and issued his own directions to keep the office open and that too without following the SOP in this regard,” said sources.
It would be in place to mention here that JKEDI houses a full-fledged quarantine centre for the COVID-19 patients.
The Institute canteen serves food and other items to the quarantined people. Despite this the Executive Director ordered to open the office, after which many employees are feared to have got infected. The actual number of infections can be ascertained only after the tests of all employees who have been in contact with the affected officer are done.
The Executive Director a couple of weeks ago deputed six senior scale officers for Corona Virus mitigation related efforts at Srinagar Airport, on his own and again in violation of a government order. According to the order, the Executive Director along with two other senior officers was deputed for duties at airport, but he preferred to take the institute's six senior officers with him as per his wish.
