GCET Jammu gets 54 AICTE approved seats to run M.Tech programs

JAMMU, June 20: Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET),Jammu has got the approval for 54 seats in M. Tech programs from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), a Statutory body under Ministry of HRD, GOI.
The three NBA Accredited programmes are Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering with the intake capacity of 18 students for each department for the academic session 2020-21.
Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education, Talat Parvez Rohella, has appreciated the concerted efforts put in by faculty, staff of GCET and State Project Implementation Unit(SPIU) of TEQIP-III.
”With this landmark achievement, the GCET Jammu comes at par with IIT Jammu & NIT Srinagar to offer M.Tech programmes and with introduction of M.Tech programmes equal opportunity shall be available to students as well as to the faculty to widen their technical knowledge and to carry out Doctoral level Research in emerging fields of engineering sciences resulting in provision of competent manpower for Industrial Sector” he said.
Further he stated that more such programmes in other emerging areas shall also be introduced in due course.
Principal GCET, Dr Sameru Sharma, thanked the Commissioner/ Secretary Higher Education for his proactive steps on the issue. She said that the institute had been pursuing with the AICTE for the last many years, however, the decision to this effect has been taken on the basis of various technological milestones GCET has achieved during the recent past- the main being the accreditation status granted by National Board of Accreditation(NBA) in June 2019.
She further said that the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP-III)-a World Bank assisted Project run by MHRD, GoI, has played a vital role in raising the infrastructure of the institution such as up-gradation of laboratories, creation of smart class-rooms, deputing the faculty to various IITs/IIMs of the country, promoting student-industry interaction, enhancing the technical skills of the students and faculty so as to raise the competency in the emerging field of Engineering and Technology.
