EARLY TIMES REPORT

POONCH, June 20: A widow of an employee of Health Department in Surankote, Poonch has leveled serious allegations of demanding bribe from her on Block Medical Officer Surankote.
According to Shamshad Akhter, widow of Abdul Qayoom, said that her husband was employee of Health Department in SDH Surankote who got retired in February this year and died in May.
Shamshad Akhter said, "I along with my husband went to the office of BMO Surankote in November last year to settle the pension case file of my husband where the BMO asked us to contact a staff member of his office. We went to the person, who openly demanded Rs 50000 as bribe from us to settle the pension case. But, we expressed our helplessness to pay the amount.”
“I still recall that the employee said, (Is Mein Mera Bhi Hissa Hai Aur BMO Ka Bhi). We then requested the BMO who assured us that the case will be settled and sent us home," she added.
After the death of her husband, Shamshad Akhter once again went to the BMO office for making an enquiry of the file but the BMO told her that the file she is looking for is nowhere in the record as the money demanded was not paid.
She said that BMO told "Agar Aapne Pehle 50000 Rupay Diye Hote To Aaj Kaam Ho Gaya Hota". “The words of BMO were really shocking as he was openly demanding bribe for the work,” Akhter said. The ill-fated widow has appealed to Lieutenant Governor G C Murmu to take necessary action against the BMO and order an inquiry against his misconduct.
Meanwhile, CMO Poonch, said that a team has been constituted to inquire about the issue and the action against officials may be initiated as per rules if the allegations proved to be correct.
When contacted BMO Surankote refuted all the allegations and said that he will report the matter to the police.
