AICSCSTOBCO demands implementation of SC/ST Atrocities Amendment Act
6/23/2020 11:36:07 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 23: Expressing its serious concern over increased atrocities towards SC/STs, the All India Confederation of SC ST OBC Organizations (AICSCSTOBCO) demanded full implementation of SC/ST Atrocities Amendment Act, 2018 in UT of J&K. Addressing a press conference here today, R K Kalsotra, State President All India Confederation of SC ST OBC Organizations informed that the organization has sent a letter to Girish Chandra Murmu, Lieutenant Governor, Jammu and Kashmir, and copy of that to Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Secretary (CS), DGP and Director National Commission for SC/ST and apprised them about the atrocities being committed on SC/STs.
Kalsotra said that even if a case is registered under SC/ST Atrocities Amendment Act people are trying to get bail from courts. He asked the big leaders of BJP, Congress, NC and other political parties to play their role and urged the govt to implement the act and arrest the culprits immediately.
He alleged that in the past few days, number of caste based atrocities cases took place in the UT J&K and these were reported to LG, CS, DGP office via emails.
It is to be highlighted that despite the fact that some cases were registered under SC/ST Atrocities Act, the set guidelines were not followed. We personally talked to each concerned DC/SSP. It was found that police as well opposite parties were pressuring the aggrieved to disclose their witnesses before the arrest of the culprit and in some cases they tried to change the witnesses also. Kalsotra threatened if culprits are not arrested then we will be left with no other option than to come out for open protests across J&K.
