| Traffic resumes on highway, connecting Ladakh with Kashmir | | |  Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 20: Traffic was resumed on the national highway, linking Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh with Kashmir valley on Monday after remaining suspended since Friday due to massive landslides in Kagan in the central Kashmir district of Ganderbal.
Meanwhile, due to COVID-19 pandemic, passenger traffic remained banned on the 270-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway and historic 86-km-long Mughal road since March this year. However, only vehicles carrying essentials and fresh fruits are being allowed to ply on both the roads.
A traffic police official told UNI this morning that traffic was resumed on the Srinagar-Leh national highway after remaining suspended since Friday due to landslides at Bonibagh, Kangan. Several structures were also damaged due to landslides.
However, J&K traffic police on official twitter account said the highway was still closed on July 20 due to landslides.
Spokesman vehicles carrying essential commodities for Ladakh, including petrol, diesel, were allowed to move from Srinagar towards Kargil after the landslides were cleared. No passenger vehicle will be allowed to ply following ban due to COVID pandemic, he said. However, he said, people having emergency are being allowed to move on the highway.
He said only vehicles with essential commodities were allowed to ply from Jammu to Srinagar on Monday on the highway, the only all-weather road connecting Kashmir with the rest of the valley. No public transport will be allowed on the highway, he added.
A spokesman said security forces are advised to undertake journey on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway only after confirming the status of the road from Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) National Highway JS Johar.
About the Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region was also through for one-way. However, only vehicles carrying fruit shell be allowed from Herpora, Shopian from 1100 hrs towards Poonch till 1600 hrs. No vehicle will be allowed after the deadline, he said.
