EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, July 20: Even as the administrative hierarchy right from the Lieutenant Governor to various Advisors and senior bureaucrats are making fervent and continuous appeals to the general public to follow and respect the social distancing norms but it seems the crowds of people pouring at Regional Transport Office, Jammu have nothing to do with the COVID-19 pandemic and the guidelines issued to contain its spread. Not only the people assembling in large numbers at Regional Transport Office, Jammu have scant regard for the SOPs related to COVID-19 pandemic but the RTO, office is also not paying much needed attention to maintain the social distancing norms as well as keeping a strict check on non-wearing of mandatory face masks by the visitors to the premises.
This “chalta hai” attitude is posing a grave threat to the visitors and staff of the RTO, Jammu amid a sudden spike in corona positive cases in the last few days in Jammu city and its peripheral areas.
“Instead of ensuring the minimization of the threat perception of coronavirus, the huge gatherings outside Regional Transport Office, Jammu are nothing but an open invitation for the deadly virus to infect somebody,” said a visitor to RTO office, Jammu.
“Although it has been made mandatory to keep social distancing and wear facemasks to contain the spread of COVID-19, but these SOPs are not being implemented as well as adhered to. RTO office Jammu is not presenting a soothing picture. The rush of people and jostling in crowds and queues inside the premises are dreadful. The authorities need to do something urgent to correct it otherwise it will be too late,” he added.
When contacted, ARTO Pawan Kumar said that we are making repeated requests to the visitors to maintain social distancing and to restrict their movement inside the premises but they are ignoring all the pleas.
