UDA opposes toll plazas at Lakhanpur, Akhnoor

JAMMU, July 20: Appealing the government to reconsider its decision, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on Monday strongly opposed any move to install two new Toll Plaza at Lakhanpur and Jammu-Akhnoor National Highway.
In a statement issued here today, Rajiv Mahajan Chief Spokesperson of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) said “We strongly condemn the move to install two Toll Plazas at Akhnoor in Jammu-Akhnoor National Highway and Lakhanpur which is unjustified and has overburdened the middle class and self-employed.”
Mahajan expressed his serious concern over the way the Toll Plazas are being imposed on the people of Jammu who have already opposed the same in Sarore in Samba district and Ban area in Nagrota.
“The local commuters are being compelled to pay the toll in these plazas which is unjustified and it is a deliberate attempt to put financial burden on the middle class when entire world is fighting against pandemic novel coronavirus,” said Mahajan.
Mahajan said, “The Jammu people feel cheated with the installation of two more Toll Plazas and there is a general feeling among people of not being heard by the authorities concerned even as they have raised their concern through various means.”
He asserted that the people of Jammu region are being discrimination for the last 70 seventy years by the successive governments. He stated the BJP Government at the Centre has also doing the same discrimination with the installation of the aforesaid toll plazas.
He said that the government should understand the pulse of the people as it has become one of the main concerns for the Jammuites. It is not going to be tolerated anymore, he added.
The signatories to the statement included Lt Gen (Retd.) Pradeep Singh Mehta, Principal Advisor, Munish Sahni, Convener, IG (Retd) Sudhir Dogra, General Secretary, Co- Conveners Col (Retd) S S Pathania, Krishan Manhas, Satish Ponshi, DC (Retd) Vijay Kumar Sharma and several others.
