Early Times Report

RAJOURI, July 22: The officials of Rural Development Department (RDD) surpassed all the records since they threatened a resident of a Panchayat of this district of dire consequences if he did not sign an affidavit brought by these people along with the local Sarpanch. Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Balshama Panchayat had few days talked to Early Times alleging that a village level worker (VLW) had taken Rs. 10,000 for including his name in the list of beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) so that he could construct his house.
Following the expose the RDD officials including GRS, VLW and BDO Siote virtually raided the residence of Ramesh and asked him to sign the affidavit failing which he would face dire consequences. In the affidavit it has been written that the allegations leveled by Ramesh against the VLW are false and there is no truth in the same.
As the poor resident did not sign the affidavit he and his wife are being threatened like anything by the RDD officials and the local Sarpanch. This is despite the fact that VLW has been illegally appointed in the department through back door. He along with the other RDD officials have virtually brought a bad name to the department.
The family members as well as the locals have expressed dismay that the RDD higher ups including the Commissioner Secretary and Director have so far failed to take any action against the VLW despite serious charges of corruption against him. The family members have alleged that they are being asked to compromise on the issue.
Swarn Singh, a retired army man who lives in the village said that there is a nexus between the RDD officials and the Panchayat representatives in the area. He said that sine serious allegations have been leveled against the VLW he should be terminated from the service. He and the other locals demanded that LG should intervene in the matter and probe the matter.
