7/31/2020 12:00:59 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 30: In the wake of continued spike in Covid-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir, the administration in a proactive move has established a plasma bank in the summer capital of Srinagar whereas Jammu is still working on the plan.
Official sources said the Government Medical College Srinagar established a plasma bank at Kashmir Nursing Home at Gupkar in Srinagar, where a first such special plasma donation camp was held.
Official sources said the GMC Srinagar had approached the patients who have recovered from Covid-19 in the last around a fortnight to donate their plasma to save lives of others. Sources said the special camp was held at Kashmir Nursing Home.
Sources said apart from civilians, the Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel in particular have also donated the plasma for the plasma bank for the recovery of the Covid-19 patients. Sources said head of the Chest Disease Hospital at Dalgate, Dr Naveed Nazir has been personally monitoring the establishment of the plasma bank. It was reliably learnt that a plasma donation camp was also recently held with Dr Naveed Nazir in chair. Sources said the administration established the bank in the wake of public appeals for the plasma for the seriously ailing patients hospitalized in Srinagar. While the Kashmir has taken a lead, Jammu is yet to suppose to establish a full-fledged plasma bank, though collection of plasma has been started.
It is pertinent to mention that plasma therapy showed promising results in treating the COVID-19 positive cases as thousands of positive cases across the country have benefitted from the scheme. When contacted a senior official confirmed about the development. He however said the establishment of Plasma Bank was underway at Government Medical College Jammu and that the same would be fully functional in the coming days. “Actually the number of cases in Srinagar was the largest and thus it took (the lead),” the official said on the condition of anonymity.
