Advisory Council? | | | Speculations are once again rife that deliberations are on to set up an Advisory Council in Jammu and Kashmir and decision in this regard will be taken soon. Some BJP leaders have said it on record that the discussions are on to give final shape to the council. Soon after former union minister and senior BJP leader Manoj Sinha was appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, top BJP leaders stated that his appointment would pave the way for revival of the political process in J&K. The feelers are being sent that to begin with a political advisory council comprising of the leaders from Jammu as well as Kashmir will be constituted. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, during his Independence Day speech assured that assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held as soon as the delimitation exercise is completed. It means that politicians will have to wait till the process gets completed. But the political leaders are waiting eagerly for something to happen as they are feeling that they have been sidelined. An interim Advisory Council can keep the politicians busy and would empower them to some extent. The BJP leaders from Jammu and Kashmir had opposed setting up of any such council initially. J&K BJP President, Ravinder Raina, had stated that no such council will be formed till the assembly elections are held in the Union Territory. He had said that no one will be allowed to capture the power through backdoor. Now, the talks about Advisory Council taking shape have restarted. Recently a senior BJP leader from J&K claimed that parleys are in the final stages. It seems that BJP leaders in J&K are confused and are unaware about what’s happening around them. They have been caught off guard on many occasions. It appears that national leadership doesn’t take them on board before taking any decisions. The chaos prevalent within the BJP ranks in J&K has put the former ministers and the so-called tall leaders of the party in very embarrassing situations in the past. One can understand their desperation but they have to toe one line. Either they have to support some move or oppose it. They can’t have the cake and eat it too. If they don’t know what’s happening then they should avoid issuing statements. It erodes their credibility. |
