JAMMU, Aug 17: As J&K Union Territory administration has failed to set up special centres in various Kashmiri Pandits’ migrant camps across Jammu to obtain domicile certificates in a hassle free manner, several inmates rue the arrangements made describing them insufficient and ill-planned.
"On the one hand we have to go to Shanker building situated on Jammu-Akhnoor road near Toph Bridge from Jagti camp during this pandemic crisis when there is no public transport available and on the other the staff deputed there for the purpose makes an applicant to run from pillar to post for one reason or the other," said, social activist Sunil Pandita while talking to Early Times.
"We had demanded to set up special centres for migrant Kashmiri Pandits living in migrant camps across Jammu for obtaining domicile certificates but our plea fell to deaf ears," Pandita added.
He also lambasted the leaders of the community who pose themselves as champions of the community cause but while needed in most troubled times they were nowhere to be seen.
"I want to ask the self-styled leaders of the community that what has happened to them, why they do not come forward and make a demand for some arrangements which could help the migrants to obtain their domicile certificates in a hassle free manner at their respective locations like the leaders of other communities do", Sunil maintained.
We have seen people in long queues standing in scorching heat outside cyber cafe outlets here, who charge exorbitant fee from the applicants to register a form in online mode, said another migrant K L Wattal, who resides in Jagti camp, adding despite that no certificate was issued in time as the server remains down most of the time.
We need a separate centre for the purpose here at Jagti camp where a population of seventeen thousand souls and above resides, Wattal maintained.
It is in place to mention that a huge rush of passouts of 12th class was also witnessed at Shanker building who require domicile certificates for their admissions in various technical as well as academic institutions across the country in next session but they have been left in lurch as there were no proper arrangements for disposal of certificates to the migrant students too.
“We urged upon Relief organization to set up special centres in various migrant camps across Jammu where issuance of domicile certificates to Kashmiri Pandit migrants could be made in proper and hassle free manner and within a stipulated time frame,” said a few locals of Jagti camp.
