JAMMU, Aug 17: The ancient Kailash Yatra has been cancelled in the wake of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.
In a statement issued here today, Mubarak Singh, President J&K Dharmarth Trust said that the Trust has provided all necessary arrangements like every year for the smooth conduct of the Yatra. He mentioned that due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in J&K Union Territory the government has decided to cut short the period of three-day only.
“The 10-day-long Yatra has been cut short to three days with only Chhari (Holy Mace) to be allowed from the traditional Hayan route,” he said, adding that the Yatra was scheduled to commence from the twin tracks of Chattargala and Hayan in Bhaderwah on August 8 but was delayed due to the outbreak of the pandemic.
“The Charri Mubarak of Holy Kailash Yatra has left for Kailash Kund from the ancient Vasuki Nag Temple, Gatha, Bhaderwah. The Yatra will return back to Bhaderwah on August 18 after performing all the traditional rituals as per the past practice,” Singh said.
Manager of Dharmarth Trust along with a few devotees and Pujairs permitted by the local administration have left along with Chhari Mubarak.
As per belief, the Kailash Kund is a lake of 1.5 mile circumference with crystal clear water and it is located at a height of over 13,000 feet from the sea level. The Kailash Kund was the original abode of Lord Shiva, but he gave it to Vasuki Nag and he went to live at Manmahesh in Himachal Pradesh’s Bharmour.
