EARLY TIMES REPORT

SRINAGAR, Aug 19: Despite the fact that government has not left any stone unturned in providing the funds for maintenance of parks and all other recreational places to the concerned department, but the civil society Pampore and other senior citizens have alleged that the MC Pampore has failed to maintain public parks in Pampore town.
According to sources, Saffron town has been completely ignored by the Municipal Committee, Pampore. It is very unfortunate that after collecting huge amounts of taxes, fees and revenue, MC Pampore has failed to maintain as many as 10 public parks in Saffron town- Pampore.
We appeal to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama to investigate the matter and constitute the Committee of Officers to look into the mismanagement and lack of accountability in Municipal Committee, Pampore, said locals.
They said that all financial accounts of MC Pampore should be monitored and audits should be done, and it should be known that how much money has been spent on maintenance of public parks from last 5 years.
Howeve,r sources while quoting, Nadeem Qadri, Environmental Lawyer, High Court of J&K, and founder, J&K ECO-WATCH as having said that, he urges TeshildarPampore to personally visit all the Public Park and prepare a detailed report in the larger interest of Public.
“I on behalf of Civil Society - Pampore also like to state that Children and Families have no place to sit and relax, so we urge the District Development Commissioner Mr. Ragav Langer Ji to immediately start the Eco-Restoration of all 10 Public Parks on war footing basis, said Qadri.
However sources further said that, from past many months the people are confined to their houses only, and stress and strain have destroyed their mental peace due to this pandemic. During morning and evening hours, people used to visit there to get themselves relaxed, but it is quite unfortunate that the grim picture of parks leaves no option for them to move away without staying there for quite a long duration, sources informed.
Sources questioned that the bad condition of parks raises a question over the work culture of the municipalities and other concerned departments across the J&K, adding when they collect taxes, fees and revenue, from these parks and other associated buildings and other structures, why they have failed to maintain the parks to its best.
